Summer is finally here! We had a wonderful school year, and I hope everyone has a safe and adventurous summer break! Whether you are traveling or staying right here in San Antonio, I hope each and every one of you reads some great books! I have a special challenge to encourage lots of reading over the break.
Summer Reading Challenge
I’d like to invite all students at Thornton to participate in a special reading challenge this summer. I am planning on reading lots and lots of books. Do you think you can read even more books? If you can read more books than me over the summer, I will have a special treat for you in the library at the beginning of school next year. All you need to do is fill out the Summer Reading Tracking Sheet with all the books you read over the summer. Have an adult from home sign it, and bring it to the library during the first week of school next year. A special treat will be waiting for you if you read more than Mrs. Decker. You can find everything you need for the summer reading challenge on the links on this webpage.
I can’t tell you the exact number of books I will read this summer, but I can tell you that I will be reading all 20 of the Bluebonnet Award nominated titles. So….in order to beat me, you will need to read more than 20 books.
Speaking of Bluebonnet books, for those of you who will be in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades next year, I have a special Bluebonnet Challenge. It’s not too early to get started on reading Bluebonnet books. You can find the list of nominated books on my webpage, so get started! If you read a Bluebonnet book over the summer, you can earn DOUBLE Accelerated Reader points at the beginning of school next year. Also, if you read all 20 Bluebonnet books over the summer and pass the Accelerated Reader tests, you will get a special PLATINUM MASTER READER CARD that will allow you to check out 4 books for the 2014-2015 school year! The Bluebonnet tracking sheet can be found on my webpage. Print it out, fill it out, and turn it in at the beginning of school next year!
I hope you all have a fabulous summer and read tons of super books!
See you next year!
