Clark AVID Teachers--Lisa Smalls and Kimberly Cook
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an internationally recognized program designed to promote student achievement.
AVID selects students who are willing to challenge themselves with rigorous courses in order to prepare themselves for attending a four year university. To ensure success in these rigorous courses, the AVID program provides tutoring twice a week during class. The other three days, AVID students can be found learning how to do the following: successfully organize schoolwork, remember SAT Vocabulary, complete a Timed Writing, discover ways to earn volunteer hours, research universities, apply for scholarships, complete college applications, and research future careers.
Students make a four-year commitment to the AVID program by taking the AVID elective during the regular school day. Our goal is to have each student, by the end of the four years, accepted into a four-year university .
