AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is all about college! It helps prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students using the AVID strategies - Cornell notes, binder organization, time management, higher order thinking, and WICR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Reading) activities.
AVID students (both 7th and 8th graders) come to their class everyday during 2nd period. They learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable.
A typical AVID week is:
Monday & Wednesday - AVID Curriculum
Tuesday & Thursday - Tutorials
Friday - Field Trips, Guest Speakers, Team Building
