3rd: Review 2nd, whole note/rest, 5 pitch songs, staff reading,

4th: Review 3rd, sixteenth notes, 7 pitch songs, staff reading, recorder

5th: Review 4th, syncopated rhythms, 7 pitch songs, percussion/recorder ensembles.

Performance Opportunities:

I am proud of the accomplishements of Mead student's. This year, kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade students perform at parent showcases held during the student's regular music time.  Performance opportunities for upper grades include 3rd-5th Grade Choir, 5th Grade String Project, and 4th and 5th Grade Percussion and Recorder Ensembles.  Please read below to discover how your student can become involved in Mountaineer Music programs.

Mountaineer Choir: (Meets during Music)

The Mountaineer Choir is open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Students rehearse during music class.  Students learn music during music class and parents complete a parent permission form before each concert (Dec. and May).

Fifth Grade Strings Project:

Fifth grade students may receive violin, viola, or cello lessons  on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 3-4:15p.m.   Students are required to stay in the program for the entire school year.   A VH1 Music grant gifted the school with student instruments that are made available at no cost. Last year 46 fifth grade students applied to the program. Twenty-four names were drawn from the 46 applicants.

Percussion and Recorder Ensemble Coming Soon:

Fourth and Fifth Grade students receive percussion and recorder instruction (a woodwind instrument) throughout the year. Fourth grade students begin recorder instruction in the spring semester of fourth grade. NISD currently provides a recorder to all fourth grade students.  New fifth graders purchase their own recorder. Percussion and Recorder students may sign up to perform at the May concert.
