Hello! My name is Jo Ann Armenta. This is my tenth year as a Math Specialist at Northside ISD and my fifteenth year as an educator. My journey began in a portable teaching 4th grade for three years then onward to 5th for two years! I am looking forward to this school year, 2012-13, where our school theme is College Bound.
I earned my bachelors in education at Our Lady of the Lake University, a masters in mathematics education (K - 12) at the University of the Incarnate Word, and a masters in educational leadership at the University of Texas at San Antonio. These experiences have assisted me to become well rounded to how our students need to be successful in math for their future success.
If your child is in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade then please note there are certain promotion standards they need to meet. Each of these grade levels requires a certain type of basic facts to be learned. This can be accomplished by using flash cards, random oral quizzes between you and your child, or creating 5 fact problems a day for your child to do.
Additionally, there is a Math Rocks! concert at the end of the school year to celebrate knowing our basic facts. Those students who meet EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS on the NISD Promotion Standards will attain a VIP ticket to sit in the VIP section!
Please feel free to contact me at 397-1750 ext. 3121 or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about the Mathematics program or NISD Math Promotion Standards.
