Getting ready for another great year of music! This will be my 20th year at Cody -- and each year gets better and better.
A Little Bit About Me
I have a B.S.Ed and M.Ed with a certification in music, K-12.
On a personal note: My whole family is involved with music and the arts. My wife is a vocalist for Crimson Jazz Orchestra in San Antonio of which I am the co-conductor. All three of my sons are professional musicians - one resides in Las Vegas, one in Myrtle Beach, SC, and the other is currently based out of San Antonio. When I'm not in school, you might find me playing piano around town with various jazz groups. On Sundays, I'm the keyboardist for Travis Park United Methodist Church's Celebration Band.
Formerly, I toured with country entertainer Charlie Rich as his personal pianist/conductor, and enjoyed playing for various artists including Dionne Warwick, Glen Campbell, and jazz great Dizzy Gillespie. I was transferred to San Antonio from Opryland to work as a bandleader at Fiesta, TX and simply put, after that opening season, I was tired of touring and decided to stay here -- one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've enjoyed a life rich with musical experiences and I bring to the classroom a vast cache of hands-on musicianship to enhance the students' love of the art of music.
Periodically, through funding from grants, I try to bring in professional musicians to perform for the students in 4th and 5th grades. Last year, we had a wonderful visit from a WWII saxophonist from Holland who not only gave us a stellar concert, but also participated in a question and answer session -- quite a history lesson.
This year we'll explore many genres of music -- from classical to contemporary. My goal is to spark an interest in students and help them express their creativity through song.
