AVID is a program that has migrated from California throughout the United States expressly designed to help students "in the middle" who could do better, who could aim higher, and who will make additional training or college their main goal for after high school.
During the first semester, the AVID Elective Class is going to focus on the following areas:
Organizing with planners, binders, and learning logs
Learning to effectively use Cornell Notes
Maintaining quality classwork and grades
Learning to contribute effectively in Socratic Seminars
Since many of our AVID students have not taken Pre-AP level classes before, the AVID Elective Class will provide students with daily support for their academic classes. There will be no additional homework for AVID, however, the strategies learned in the AVID classroom are expected to be used in their academic courses. The goal for AVID is that the students will have mastered and will use these strategies throughout their academic careers.
There is additional information about the AVID program on their website, and we would like to welcome you to AVID.
