Language Support Teacher/LPAC Coordinator
Welcome to my web page. My name is Yolanda DeLeon, and I am the Campus Language Support Teacher (LST) at Knowlton. My job is to assist teachers in working with students who are limited in their English proficiency. My primary focus is to help students with their reading and writing skills. Most of the students I assist receive their instruction in Spanish. Therefore, the reading support I provide is in Spanish. The teachers assess the students regularly to insure that they are making progress in learning English. The knowledge of Spanish that students have acquired serves as our tool to teach them English.
As LPAC (Language Proficiency Assessment Committee) Coordinator, I oversee Knowlton's compliance with the laws that govern the instruction of students with limited English proficiency (LEP). I am the resource and support person for routine matters relating to the program.
Prior to becoming LST, I was a fifth grade bilingual teacher for five years. I have Bachelors and Masters degrees in Business Administration. I am certified as a Bilingual Generalist in Grades 4-8. I continue to learn about bilingual education, in the hopes that I will continue to add value with this knowledge.
