SPEECH THERAPY - BOONE ELEMENTARY
WELCOME TO THE SPEECH ROOM
Welcome to Boone Elemenatary Speech! As speech pathologists, Mrs. Somohano and Ms. Castillo are here to identify and provide services to those children who may have difficulty with communication. Services can be provided for those children beginning as early as age 3. There are several areas of speech disorders that we identify in our school age children. Specific disorders may include: voice, dysfluency, hearing impairment, language and/or articulation/phonology. Most of the children we see are eligible in language and/or articulation. Briefly, articulation involves the specific production of sounds in speech. Children may experience substitutions, omissions or distortions in their speech patterns. Language involves areas of delay/disorders in receptive and expressive abilities. When these disorders are identified we see students for therapy one to two times per week for thirty minute sessions. We work closely with the teachers to take them at times during the day that do not interfere with academics.
We may also read books and passages of increasing length as we practice answering questions about what we've read. We support our students' academic growth as we work to develop their communication skills.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child.
