teacher background

I am the teacher for Transitional Life One.  I have been working in education for 25 years.  I have been in the behavior class for 25 years .  I have a Masters degree in Special Education from Southwest Texas State Univeristy, an undergraduate degree in Business from Texas A&I University , Kingsville, and a Principalship certification from Texas A& M University, Kingsville. Our class is  highly structured  with a low teacher to student ratio with staff who are specially trained for behaviorally challenged students. We have students who have behavior problems that are so severe that they have not been successful on a regular campus and come to us for intense training .

We go into the community on a daily basis for vocational training. The two job sites that the students go to are Peter Piper Pizza and Hancock Fabrics. We also go to community places such as HEB, the Mall, Goodwill, , and Bass Pro Shop.

We use proven  research based behavior techniques that have worked over several years of dealing with  difficult students.  Positive reinforcement, reward systems, structure, and redirection are integral parts of our successful classroom. Our curriculum consists of five domains of instruction: functional academics, vocational, community, personal management, and recreation/leisure. All of these areas are taught on a daily basis.  However, instruction and rewards systems/behavior plans are tailored to the individual student.
