Background

I received a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry and a M.A. in higher education from O.L.L.U. in San Antonio, Texas.  I am currently involved with the Voelcker Biosciences Teacher Academy with U.T.H.S.C.

Welcome to Biology at O’ Connor High School. I am very excited to have a great year. Together, we will have a successful year!   I am available to tutor in J117 by appointment.

 

Course Description: Bio- means life and –logy means study of. Biology is the study of living things.

We will explore various topics in Biology through lab investigations.

 

Materials needed: You may keep your textbook at home and use it as a reference for tests and homework.

  1. Pencils, pens                                                
  2. COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK 100 pages                
  3. Highlighter recommended

Donations: I would appreciate if one or more of the following could be donated for the class: hand sanitizer,

                     Kleenex tissue, or paper towels. Your donations will be greatly appreciated.

 

GRADING PROCEDURES: It is your responsibility to ask for any missed work and to schedule makeup tests.

                                               A file system is in front of the class for any handouts or assignments you need.

Summative Grades:   40 %

    

                                               Interactive Notebook: We will keep a composition notebook for the entire

                                               year. You are expected to bring your notebook to class every day. A test will

                                               be given each six weeks. You may use your interactive notebook. The grade will

                                             count as a summative test grade each six weeks.  

 

                                               Tests: There will be at least two tests each six weeks. Any missed tests can

                                                            be made up in the Testing Center when you return to class. Retests

                                                             are available if a student is failing and is willing to go to tutoring

                                                            before the retest. A maximum score of 70 is possible.

 

Lab Activities: 40%

                                               We will conduct at least 3 major labs each six weeks.

                                              Unexcused late lab work- 10 points deducted each day for the first three days.

                                               After three days, a maximum score of 50 will be given.

 

Formative Grades- Daily work: 20%

                                            Daily work that is late will NOT be accepted.

                                               Warm ups will be completed daily. If you are absent, you must copy any missed

                                             Warm ups from a classmate. These will be collected every two weeks for two grades.
