I'm Laura Garza and this is my first year as a Cougar at Clark High School. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1999 and went back to my hometown to teach at my Alma Mater (Class of '95), JW Nixon High School in Laredo, TX for 5 years. I was very fortunate to go back and teach alongside some of the greatest teachers who made a difference in my life. While at Nixon HS, I taught English I, II, III, Pre-AP English I, Practical Writing, Reading, and Speech. I also Co-Sponsored the dance team, the Golden Spurs for 3 years and obtained my Master's degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M International University.
Then in 2004, I followed my heart to San Antonio where I married the love of my life, my husband Cris of 6 years. This is my tenth year living in San Antonio. I taught English and was the Academic Support Teacher/Credit Retrieval Coordinator at John Jay High School where I also worked on my internship for administration. I was a proud Mustang at Jay HS for 9.5 years before coming to Clark as the credit retreival teacher in the Spring of 2014.
I am a proud mommy of my five year old son and my two year old daughter. My hobbies include reading, running, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
I love working with students and helping them be successful. I tell my students all the time that I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was in the first grade. Teaching is truly my passion!
