Welcome to PPCD. I'm very excited to have your child be a part of my class this year. We have a fun and exciting year planned. It will be full of literacy experiences, oral language development, free exploration, observation, hands-on experiences, and excitement.
PPCD stands for Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities. Our PPCD classroom is staffed with 1 teacher and 2 instructional assistants. Our children range in age from 3 to 5. I have a morning self-contained program and an afternoon Pre-k/ PPCD Collaboration program. Both programs stress language development and independence. We work closely with the PK teacher and her students to provide opportunities for inclusion each day. There is a PPCD assistant that will be working with the PPCD children in Kindergarten.
Here in Northside ISD the HighScope curriculum is used in all PPCD classrooms. The curriculum is a proven, research-based strategy for early childhood learning. The HighScope curriculum emphasizes adult-child interaction, a carefully designed learning environment, and a plan-do-review process that strengthens initiative and self-reliance in children. Students and teachers are active partners in shaping the educational experience. The HighScope Curriculum integrates all aspects of a child’s development, enhancing each child’s growth in the foundations of academics as well as in social-emotional, physical, and creative areas.
Now a little about me. I have 20 years of teaching experience. I spent 12 years in Kindergarten and 7 years in Pre-Kindergarten, 1 year in PPCD and have loved every minute of it!
" As parents, the most important thing we can do is read to our children early and often. Reading is the path to success in school and life. When children learn to love books, they learn to love learning." - Laura Bush
